Browns in Colorado

Some additional information on the Browns in Colorado. Listed as children of John M. Brown are: James, William, Andrew, Mathew(?), Jane, John W., Julie A. and Margaret L.Brown. Also, the children of my great grandfather John W. Brown are: Joe Lee, Mary Ellen, Richard, John Cleveland, James, Joseph, Lattie, William and Earl Arthur Brown. Earl was my grandfather.

Looking for information on John W. Brown and John M. Brown in Colorado

I have some information on John Brown and family which is part of a document "Huerfano County Georgia Colony History" which shows a list of Southerners who settled in Huerfano County in the 1870's. I am not sure whether this is John W. or John M. Brown. However, the document lists Dr. John Gribble and family as being a part of this migration. Dr. John Gribble's daughter...Sarah Elizabeth Gribble is my great grandmother. There seems to be information on the Gribble side of the family, but not much on the Brown side. In another document from 11/28/79 "Huerfano County, Colorado...Oral Interviews" scanned by Dick Chenault and edited by Sherry Cook it mentions that "In 1866 the size of Huerfano County was greatly reduced by the erection of Las Animas County the year following. Huerfano County was reorganized, the following men being the officers: John M. Brown, county clerk; John Bernard, sheriff; Benton Canon, treasurer and accessor; commissioner, John W. Brown, Burdens, H. Sealing; the county seat being Badito."

From the 1880 Census John W and Sarah E. Brown were living in Huerfano County. In 1900, it appears that they were in La Belle, Taos, New Mexico.

John M. doesn't appear on either census. He may not have been alive at that time, but I have not found anything that would confirm his death. John M. Brown was born in 1810 as near as we can tell.
