Plowmans from Caithness and Wick

Like most " trade names " Plowman is nio=ot restricted to one specific area of the UK It can be found in Wiltshire and southern England .My Plowmans are from the far north of Scotland in Wick or to be specific Reiss . There is no genealogical connection as far as I am aware with Plowmans from the other airts . There seem to have been two families in the Wick area and although I have an extensive data base have so far been unable to establish a coonection with the " Whaligoe " Other names in the tree are Cormack ( Keiss and Aucorn ) and Bremner ( the Ulbster lot ) . My daughter married into the Beggs and Oags also from tee Wick area so grand children Aimeee and Finlay James have double connections !

Nicols of Stirling & Glasgow

The Nicols are not originally from thr Royal Burgh but my ancestor and 3 x great grand father was a regular soldier based at the Castle in the 5th Regular Scotch militia . He married a long girl Agnes Riddoch and became a shoemaker and Burgess of the Town in 1802 . His descendants established themselves as slaters and builders .John Nicol moved to Pitt Street in Glasgow and established a successful business with a yard in Union Terrace Partick .
