John Fillmore mariner

I posted to this journal yesterday and decided to return to the site just in the off chance someone replied with new and exciting information about the elusive John the mariner. No replies, but there have been 9 viewers of my entry. If you are a Fillmore from anywhere in the world, I would like to hear from you - even if you don't have information about John Fillmore my elusive mariner.

seeking information on John Fillmore, b. circa 1676, Manchester

Have been trying with no success to track any information regarding John Fillmore who according to family legend was born in Manchester. John married Abigail Tilton at Ipswich, Massachusetts in 1701. He died enroute from Martinique sometime between 1708-1711. All avenues I have tried, RootsWeb, Family Search (LDS), have turned up nothing. Clues I have followed turned up little or nothing. Apparently this family has been living in Kent for many many years. Always searching for new sources to try and tonight came across this one. So here I go again.

I wonder if family lore is actually fact, that indeed John was born in Manchester or was he born perhaps in Kent and moved to Manchester when he became a mariner, to be near a major port? Possible that when he filled in where he was from on the marriage certificate, John Fillmore wrote Manchester because that was where he was living before coming to Ipswich, Mass., U.S.A. It may very well be that family assumed he was born in Manchester. This quest to find information about this elusive ancestor of mine appears to be on the verge of obsession?
