More Of Mary M. Jones

I want to keep on going on down history road so stay with me as I want to go back where I left off. The dew of heaven was not more kind to the withering grass than was her presence to the parched and wearied heart her home like a fairy region where all the harsh and stormy passions of the world were silenced furnished a resting place to the soul all that we know and conceive of hospitality was there dispensed with a heart whose philanthropy knew no bounds and a hand open as day to melting charity. But she is gone her voice will never again welcome the coming guest nor her hand relieve the sufferings of the needy the brightest and mildest star in our moral firmament has set forever. I stood beside her aged and exhausted from a few hours after the spirit was not there how different the attitude from that in which I had recently before observed it then moving majestically along the current of life attended by all its graces and dispensing all its blessings and now in cold obstruction. I never beheld a face so intelligent and serene in death it wore to the last those felicitous traits of expression which illumined it when living. On life itself she was so still and fair that death with gentler aspect withered there. As if she scarcely felt but feigned a sleep. Boy oh boy what joy this is to me just to be able to put this down for other researchers out there. I would like to say to you that are new at this don't ever stop for you must keep this going for your family. Every day I have to thank God for He sure has stood by me down through the years. I started research for my children and grandchildren and great grandchildren. Still going on with this we left off right here. And made almost mockery yet to weep. He who hath him o'er the dead Ere the first day of death is fled. The first dark day of nothingness. The last of danger and distress. Before decay's effacing fingers. Have swept the lines where beauty lingers. And marked the mild angelic air. The Rapture of repose that's there. And fixed yet tender traits that streak. The languor of the placid cheek. Stick with me as we must keep going with this. Some moments ay one treacherous hour. He still might doubt the tyrant's power. So fair so calm so softly sealed. The first last look by death revealed. A gilded halo hovering round decay. The farewell beam of felling past away. I gazed upon that aspect without tears. For I read in its attitude moral of her life and almost fancied that I still communed with an animated being but for the sad and shrouded eye I had yet doubted whether her spirit had flown. Oh o'er the eye death most exerts his might. And hurls the spirit from her throne of light. Sainted spirit fare thee well- there have been tears and bursting hearts for thee and mind though riven with its own affiction hath bled and would have died for thee. Farewell A word that must be and hath been. A sound which makes us linger yet farewell. Willie Jones picture I put on here Mary M. Jones husband.

Mary Montfort Jones

Mary Montfort Jones Born March 5 1760 Halifax County North Carolina USA. Her death was August 10 1826 she was 66 at her death. Halifax County North Carolina. Mary Montfort Jones wife of revolutionary patriot Willie Jones and Mary Jones lived at The Grove in Halifax North Carolina. She was the daughter of Priscilla Hill and Col. Joseph the Provincial Grand Master Mason of America. I must say as a researcher that Bill McKern I must take off my hat. You can look this up by going to find a grave Memorial 19935404. Now this is history and I mean history. Mary Montfort Jones Obituary; There is lot's more for me to put down this is something yes it sure is. Listen to this as I put this down. Hear goes if you have tears to shed prepare to shed them now. Never was the electric chain wherewith we are darkly bound so keenly and so sternly smote as in the late lamented death of Mrs. Mary M. Jones a matron the perfection of whose character neutralizes the language of eulogy and silences the voice of praise. We bow in silent reverence at the mention of that venerated name and shrink in despair from the task of delineating the virtues which adorn it yet a heart that has long known and felt the soothing influence of those virtues whose darkest and dreariest shades have often been relieved by the halo that ever dwelt around her spirit would fain seek in the expression of its sorrow a temporary refuge from the grief which oppresses it. If ever the universal homage of the living was due to the memory of departed goodness hers cannot fail to command all hearts that beat and breathe within that sphere to which her genius moved and shone. The spirit of an angel clothed with the habiliments of mortality she seemed a link between the frail creatures of the earth and the beings of superior bourne. There was one of those heads which guide has often painted mild plain penetrating free from all commonplace ideas of fat contented ignorance looking downwards on the earth it looked forward but looked as if looking at something beyond this world. That picture is a picture of Willie Jones Mary M. Jones husband. Put down by Charles O'Shields.

True grave of my great Uncle William Paschal O'Shields born 1824-1909.

Mr. William Paschal O'Shields is buried in Cedar Shoalds Baptist Church Cemetery. Near Enore and has been buried there since 1909. Sometime we want to prove a point that we will hatch up a place where a person we want to be where a person is buried. One researcher even used the marker of Old Lebanon Baptist Cemetery. To try to say that William Paschal O'Shields was buried in the Old Lebanon Baptist Church Cemetery this just is not true. Even showed a picture of a marker that had no name to try to prove this to be his marker. There is no proof that any O'Shields is buried in this Cemetery. This Cemetery is all grown up trees have fallen on markers and broke them to where they can't be read. This researcher even has put his birthdate as 1800 or 1805 which this is not true. Most of the researchers out there know that i have done my research and i have give true facts. Even the other researcher used a letter that was wrote by Sarah Jane O'Shields a daughter of William Paschal O'Shields and Elizabeth Heaton. Year 1929 is when the letter was wrote. In the letter Sarah Jane O'Shields states that she don't know when her daddy died nor where he died but she goes on to say thathe went to check on his sons wife. Sounds strange to me don't give name of son. Looks like that he must have been back in Spartanburg at some point which he must have died in Spartanburg 1909 and buried next to his first wife Caroline Hammond she was buried 1908 Cedar Shoalds where both are buried. Elizabeth Heaton was buried in North Carolina.

Mountain Adventure year 1928 August.

My mother wrote more and more things in her bible. I loved mother so very much and i sure loved the family bible more than any bible. Oh it is great to have this bible been lots of pages removed from her bible but that is ok. My mother wrote about this mountain adventure. Lillie Belle O'Shields my mother put this in the family bible as she says that every summer that her husband and their childern would spened a few days in the mountains. This picture is a picture of Lillie Belle O'Shields my mother. They are ready to make this trip in the mountains. Location that was selected for what was to be a happy adventure being Cove Creek twenty miles beyond Waynesville NC. What a great place to be the mountain people were so friendly that we just loved being around them. As mother wrote in the bible she told that it was August 1928. That Mr. Denny Leonard O'Shields my daddy got out the old model T Truck out of the garage and overhauled it and made a canvas top for it. This was like what you would see on a mountain wagon. Which was packed with the tents cots bedding cooking utensils food and clothing even had watermelons and chickens and two dogs on the truck. Gee what a loaded truck. Now mother writes that the kids were to ride on top of all those things and mother and my daddy were to be in the cab. Mother says that daddy's brother and his wife and little girl were also going on this trip. Which they would be traveling in their Doge coupe following along behind. Mother says that it is six oclock when they left a very black cloud in the sky. Mother said that she was not in favor of trying to keep going. But the rest said oh it will be ok so she said ok. Night was coming on it was really rough yes i mean rough. Lighting very keen streaks flashed about us and the rain beat down. Mother says that they stopped several times lights were burned out could not get lights fixed. Mother said i think we should stop and wait till morning. But no they said we can make it we can drive by my husband's brothers lights they said. Moon light was bright and it blinded my daddy he slipped a little to close to the bank. Mother writes on with this story down' down we went crash' crash. Mother goes on she say's that she sat up on the ground. Too frighten and stuned to dat an eye looking around i saw my husband by me.But oh where was my children a thousand of things was running through my mind. I was hurt and scared as i was. Next thing i found myself sitting on top of the hill looking down upon the turned over truck below. I can not till this day explain how i got on the hill. My eight year old boy was ok and our little girl was ok.

Lillie Belle Riddle O'Shields

Lot' of things that my mother wrote in the bible that was hers. My mother gave the bible or i should say that this bible was to fall in my hands at her death. There was pages taken from my family bible before i got the bible. Which i'am not worried about that because God always answers prayer. Our mother i sure cherish all that she wrote and i'am so glad that this was left to me next to the youngest child. I love what was my mothers bible more than any family bible anyehere. I Shall start with what my mother wrote. The Courageous heart of a Faithful Wife. Mother was reared in a small town of Laurens S.C Lillie Belle goes on to tell about her daddy and how that he was a contractor by trade. Hold on i have lots more to tell. Many buildings are standing in that town and near by communities that he contracted and built. One of these is the enterprize bank of Laurens. It was while building this bank that the accident took place. Lillie Belle my mother writes on. My mother says her daddy was on the ground below the building rolling a large beam. Just then he looked up he saw another man on top of the building rolling a large iron beam off the top of the building. Stop Stop he yelled his voice was drowned out because of the men's voices and the clamp' clamp of the tools against the steel he was caught between those two beams whlch crushed his leg only a thin pice of flesh kept his leg together. Now Lillie Belles mother was a woman of strong faith in God. Mrs Riddle was worried when she saw the wagon that had her husband. Yes this was a sad time for for Lillie Belle as she was only six years of age at this time. Carrie Riddle kept a smile on her face but you could see the worried look in her eyes the good doctor done everything he could do. He had to go to the hospital to try to save Mr. Calvin Riddles leg. Mr Riddle was carried to the hospital in Columbia. You know time moves on as prayer goes up. Three months passed and one day a carriage drove up to the front door. To see Mr. Riddle sitting up in the carriage made them so very happy. And thanks to God he had both legs which we praise God. Mr. Riddle lived to be 85 he died November 23rd' 1943 born 1859.

St. Martin in the Fields

David O'Sheal was christened on 25 January 1690 at St. Martin in the Fields. I know that you will really like what i'am about to post. The eary O'Sheals did not come here from ireland as some researchers try to say. Getting back to this history and i mean history. The church was named for Martin who was born AD 316 in Pannonia' part of present day Hungary. Look at the spelling of the name which was spelled O'Sheals. Spelling changed this way by most of us O'Shields 1790 but some still spell name O'Sheal.

We have heared it said about family history.

It has been told about three O'Shields brothers that come here from Ireland' Well now we must try to clear this up for this is just not true. The O'Shields started saying this way back then with no proof i don't know who started this. But this was handed down from first one and then another. I'am sure that this has took place with all of us from time to time. I love my family very much as we sure should. Yes we all are very proud of family members as we should be. When i started my research about the history of the O'Shields i searched for true facts. I have been doing this research for over 12 years someone may worry how the name has been spelled. Wiley Drayton O'Shields that was born in Spartanburg SC. 1832-1882. Wiley Drayton O'Shields was 50 at his death. Wiley Drayton O'Shields my great grandaddy it seems that he wrote in his bible about O'Shields and he spelled the name O'Shealds. Some researchers make a deal from this but this is not anything to worry about still the same name just spelled another way. Back then they did not know how to spell. Things get started just like about the brothers.Lets take time to look at Wiley Drayton O'Shields and his Family. We must look first at his mother Nancy O'Shields. Shall we look at the birth of Nancy O'Shields born in the year 1804 August 17. I don't like to write what i'am about to write because Nancy was my great-great grandmother but i loved her and very proud of great-great grandmother. I hope that you will understand what i'am saying. It is time to try to clear up some of the things that have been told down through the years. Nancy's mother was Teresa O'Shields Teresa was a daughter of Daniel O'Shields. We have no record if Nancy O'Shields ever got married. But it is believed that Nancy worked in a doctors office in Spartanburg S.C. The doctor was Dr. John Simth Nancy and the doctor were good friends. Look at this Dr. John Smith changed his name to Dr. John Winn Smith. Stay with me as we keep going down history road. O'Sheal is a Irish name but the O'Sheal or O'Shields or O'Shealds O'Shiel did not come from Ireland. I have got lots to bring all of this out for all those that are doing research i intend to do my best to help others who are doing research. I hope you enjoy reading this what i have posted for i lots more to write. So stay with me for this is real history. Although the ancestry of Colonel David O'Sheal' the immigrant is not known beyond his father John O'Sheal a merchant of London.
