Looking for CHARTERIS siblings

I can't seem to get further than James Charteris 1786 who married Helen Bell, but here are their children listed, including my great grandfather David. Perhaps descendants of these may have knowledge of their ancestors and I have put in the little I know of my great uncles, Thomas, William and George.

James Charteris b 5th November 1833
John Charteris b 25th June 1837 Corsua Dumfries d 25 Jan 1908 Capelhill Parish of Johnstone Bridge
William Charteris b 9th Feb 1839 corsua dumfries d 1917 Hipperholm West Yorkshire England
Robert Charteris b 5th March 1841 d 7 November 1870 Lochmaben Scotland
David Charteris b 28th June 1843 Corsua dumfries d 25 December 1929 in New Plymouth
Jane Charteris b 26 November 1845 Corsua Dumfries d 30 jan 1936 Seaforth, Monrave Scotland
Helen Charteris b 3 March 1848
Thomas Charteris b 6 October 1851 Cosrua Dumfries d 16 January 1937, Timaru NZ
Agnes Charteris b 20 January 1853 Corsua Dumfries d 13 August 1942 Jasper, Michigan
George Charteris b 19 May 1855 Corsua Dumfries d 18 March 1938 in Wanganui NZ
Catherine Charteris b 6 August 1857
Walter Charteris b 23 February 1859 Corsua Dumfries (unsure of birth date)

There is virtually nothing about William in his individual family tree, just that married Eliza Corrie, who was born in Morton Parish c1840, this leads me to think that Dad is right and William went to Canada.
It could well be that his sister Agnes followed with her husband, Robert Anderson Duncanson b 29 August 1845 Paisley near Glasgow. They married 28 April 1876 at Dumfries Scotland. Robert Duncanson d 13 August 1942 in Jasper, Michigan.

Re:Thomas, nothing before him coming to NZ except that he had a son, James Richard Charteris who had three wives, just to muddy the waters so to speak.

Additional information from my father, James Seddon Charteris history:
David Charteris arrived in NZ on Epsom and married Esther Fantham.

She sailed from Buckinghamshire in England with her parents (on one of the first 4 ships) when she was three years of age, arriving in Christchurch in 1851. The couple had 14 children, one of them dying as an infant.

They were: Nell, Ernest, Joe, John, Frank, Malcolm, Stanley, Robert, Aggie, Kate, Doll, Bessie & Bert and the unknown baby.

One of their children, Ernest CHARTERIS married Ruby Hansen from Western Australia in Kalgoorlie where there first born James Seddon CHARTERIS arrived 9th August 1905. When his parents returned with him to NZ (they had been on holiday in Australia), they had three more children, Arthur Joseph CHARTERIS b 1907 - 1978, Walter Bruce CHARTERIS b 10 November 1910 - 16th October 1983 and Florence (Floss) Annie CHARTERIS who married Ralph CHURCH.

Now going back to a little more information about the first CHARTERIS brothers who left Scotland.
Three brothers, David CHARTERIS, George CHARTERIS and Tom CHARTERIS were amongst the early settlers in New Zealand. Another brother, William CHARTERIS settled in Canada. He was a brilliant surgeon who was knighted for his work. George was said to have been a policeman and accidentally had his hand blown off while he was trying to catch fish using explosives. Tom had been banished from England to America and then to New Zealand over a bet, when he said he would put his foot on the carriage of Queen Victoria, which he did, causing outrage. David was highly educated and he also came out to New Zealand from England and managed a large sheep station.
He liked to drink smoked a pipe. He was a heavy drinker until he had to be rescued from the hotel where he was sick, and feeling ashamed, gave the liquor away. David Charteris married Esther Fantham who had sailed to New Zealand on one of the first four sailing ships to that country.

My grandfater, Ernest James CHARTERIS was a New Zealander who came on a working holiday to Australia where he Married RUBY HANSON and my father James Seddon CHARTERIS was born in Kalgoorlie, returning to NZ when he was 3 months old after they won 42 guineas on Blue Spek at the Melbourne Cup. They also had Arthur, Bruce and Floss.

Dad returned to Australia in 1926 and married Angela May GLASS and i am their fourth child, so I'm Australian. We are having a family reunion at easter in NZ so trying to get as far back in the family tree as possible.

Have got as far back as James Charteris born 1786 who married Helen Bell. I am stuck at this point.
