My James Henry Clayton
Where are you hiding back in England .....
From a Death Certificate I am told that my James is the son of another James Clayton and Kate Thomas.
My James married firstly Caroline Waymouth in Dunedin New Zealand on the 10 February 1874 and had one child Caroline Clayton who married Lachlan Paterson Fraser. In 1875 after his first wifes death my James married Emma Amelia Hester on the 13 November 1875 in Christchurch New Zealand and had five children. Henry Hester Clayton died aged 10, Ivy Clayton married Charles Harold Bennett, Eva Clayton married George Pruden, Frank Lockwood Clayton who served in both world wars and Phillip Hastie Thomas Clayton who married Edna Dorothy Dassler. From these childrens birth certificates my James was born in Harrow Middlesex England, but as yet I have not been able to locate him or his parents. My James Henry Clayton started working on the Dunedin Evening Star in 1872 and was associated with approximately ten newspapers in New Zealand and for someone who made a carerr out of other peoples lives he has left little behind regarding himself.
