i AM LOOKING FOR INFO ABOUT THE FAMILY TORGER TORGERSON BORN IN NORWAY AROUND 1820.SEVERAL OF HIS SONS CAME TO america IN 1882, ONE WHICH WAS MY GREAT GRANDFATHER OLE TORGERSON BORN APRIL 03, 1856. ANY HELP GREATLY APPRECIATED.

Ole came to AMERICA from NORWAY in 1818 or 1882 along with several of his brothers. They came over on a cattle boat. When they arrived some of the brothers were ahead of OLE to sign up to become US citizens. When OLE came through the man asked his name. OLE said Torgersen. The man said he had enough TORGERSENS for the day. He then asked where OLE worked and OLE said THE GAARD FARM. The man said that would be his name from now on. The man miss spelled GAARD and wrote GORUD,so that was OLE'S new name. I don't know any of the brothers names either. OLE came to CHIPEWA FALLS WISCONSIN then on to HAYWARD WISCONSIN where he worked and married TEA Thorsen and raised a large family. OLE died in 1921 in Hayward WI.

can anyone find the names of the PARENTS of JAMES TURNBULL DOB JUNE 10, 1814 IN OHIO DOD JUNE 3, 1914???

SOme think his father was ROBERT, but he was born in 1802 and never married until 1820.I am so totally confused on this, I have been searching for what seems like forever.

KNAPP Family from Massachusetts late 1700's

My Grandmother was Cora Maud KNAPP dob 1878. Her father was Charles H KNAPP dob 1845 in New York. His father was Henry KNAPP dob 1808 or 1809 in Massachusetts. His father was Homer KNAPP born dob 1775? I don't know where Homer was born though. He may have immigrated from Germany or England,or from Canada. I don't know.
I have hit a brick wall here. This family went from Massachusetts to New York, to Geauga (Russell) Ohio to Fond Du Lac Wisconsin then to Brown Co. Minnesota. If anyone who is a part of this family, I would love to hear from you.

Torgersen Family, Norway to America

My husbands great grandfather was Ole Torgersen, His father was Torgersen. But that is as far as I can get. Ole was born in Eiker Norway, When he was old enough he worked on the GAARD FARM. He had several brothers, who when they grew up, they all came to America on a cattle boat in 1880 or 1881. When they came through immigrations Ole was towards the back of the line of Torgersens. The first few went through just fine, but when Ole came through the man asked his name. Ole said "Torgersen". The man said he had enough Torgersens for the day. The man then asked where Ole worked in Norway and Ole said the GAARD FARM. The man miss spelled GAARD and wrote down GORUD instead. He told Ole that would be his name in America.I don't know where they came into the USA, so I am having a rough time finding that info. Ole later came to Chipewa Falls Wisconsin and then on to Hayward where married Tea Thorsen in 1887, raised a large family of which we are a part of. Ole died in 1921.
Does anyone out there know anything about this family of Torgersens?
