Jeremiah Pollock was born circa 1825 emmigrated to Canada from Ireland and arrived in Canada circa 1835-40. He first appears in the 1851 Canadian census (Parish St. Sauveur County Terrebonn) as follows: Farmer from Ireland Presbyterian Age 26 living with his wife Nancy Dempsey and daughter Jane. Jeremiah and Nancy were married February 05, 1850 by the circuit minister of the Chatham Ottawa River Canada East - St. Mungo's Presbyterian Church. They farmed in a township called Britonville in the Province of Quebec which is located northwest of Montreal close to St. Sauveur and Morin Heights. They had 11 children one of whom was a Robert Francis Pollock born February 15, 1856. He was married to Kezia Elginton on June 11, 1886 at St. Andrews Presbyterian Church, Quebec City, Quebec. They in turn had 12 children with Nairn Francis Pollock being born on August 07, 1898 at Montreal, Quebec. He married Jessie Alexina Blake on May 17, 1922 at the MacVicar Memorial Presbyterian Church, Montreal, Quebec. They had 11 children with Richard Edward Pollock, my father born in Montreal as I was born in Montreal too.
Jeremiah Pollock is my brickwall and I have been unable to find anything related to his birth or death records or land records, etc. We do know he worked a gravel pit out of his land in Britonville and provided St. Jerome and St. Sauveur with gravel for the local roads - a research project to be performed at these city halls to see if we can find some records on his info is in the works.
Another group of Pollock's arrived earlier at a township named Mille Isles and it is just a stones throw away from Britonville. I believe this group and my Jeremiah were somehow related but I am missing a couple of links of the chain to connect them. They both had descendants named Jeremiah which is not a common name and they also had many John's, Robert's, William's, James', etc. as with the common naming tradition of sons and nephews repeated on down and down.
DNA testing performed in July 2012 has shown that Jeremiah and the Mille Isles Pollock's are related.
