Capt. John Martin

Found some notations that state that Capt. John Martin;the younger brother of Brig Gen. Joseph L. martin Jr., was married to Susanna Emory, They had a son born about 1781, it is also believed that this Samuel married Catherine Hildebrand. M. abt. 1802, for this, Catherine Hildebrand would have been born abt 1779-1785, It is possible for this Samuel and Catherine to have been the parents of my ggggrandmother Elizabeth Martin.

In searching for my ggggratgrand parents I have found now two possibilities.....

Samuel Martin b. abt 1768
Samuel Martin b. abt 1781.

I have found sites that list Samuel's (1768) parents to be both Joseph L. Martin Jr. and John Martin, and his mother listed as both Mary and Susanna Emory.

The same with Samuel. b. 1781.

And of course Catherine Hildebrand is recorded as to be the spouse for both with the same list of children.

Many researching the decendents of Joseph L. Martin jr. Say that he was only married twice, 1st to a white woman and 2nd tto Nancy Ward. and are the only two marriages reconized. Others state that He was married as many as four times, and the Emory sisters were amoung these wives.
Now the trick is to figure out which source is the most accuate.

Looking for information on McKenzie Coates

I am looking for inforamtion for my ggg grand father McKenzie Coates. He married first Elizabeth Martin, The daughter of Samuel Martin and Catherine Hildebrand.

McKenzie was born about 1815, I found him listed on an 1860 Census,
It listed his birthplace as TN. it is believed that he and Elizabeth were married at the Candy's Creek Babtist mission, about 1832. Candy's Creek is located near Cleveland TN. Unitl 1834 known and the Amohee District, Cherokee Nation. Now Bradley County.
It is possible that his family lived in that area in the early 1800's and possibly his place of birth.
McKenzie had a brother, born about 1819, that married Annie C. Spears,; a niece of Elizabeth's, daughter of Luicenda Martin and Joesph Spears. It is believed that his brothers name was either James or John. We know that Makenzie and Elizabeth moved to Indian Territory around 1832-34, as their second son Charles was born in the territory.

I have been trying to identify the parents of these men.
