Joseph HOY (or HAY)

Hello folks,
I am trying to trace details of my paternal great grandfather, Joseph Hoy (or maybe Hay) who was born in Norwich, England in 1827 and transported to the Swan River Colony (WA), Australia, as a convict, aboard the "William Hammond" in 1856.

Joseph married Fanny Charlotte Corrigan, born in Dublin, Ireland in 1837, in Guildford, Western Australia, on 1st March, 1863.

His convict record gives his surname as HAY but I would assume that he was possibly HOY because that is our name today. If he wasn't Hay, then we aren't truly who we think we are!!!

Looking for Edward John Caldwell, born 1871 in Nerring, Victoria, Australia.

G'day folks. My name is Ernest James(I like to be called James)Hoy and I am 65 yoa, retired and live in Ellenbrook, Western Australia. This is a fantastic site and I am most greatful to all who bring it to us. Now, this is my first time so please be gentle with me.

I first gained an interest in genealogy some 15 years ago and enjoyed it immensley until such time as the big "C" came aknocking on my door and belted me around very baddly. It was a long, difficult buttle, but, HEY" I'm alive! I have been dormant for several years now but am at last ready to get back into the game and look forward to a long and sucessful relationship with you all.

I would like to research the HOY family but, for now I am trying to trace my maternal grandfather, Edward John (Ned) CALDWELL. He was born in Nerring, Victoria, Australia in 1871 and spent his working life as a mining engineer. He worked in Victoria, before moving to Kalgoorlie in Western Australia for the gold. Ned died on 6th June, 1935 in Midland Junction, WA.

Again, thanks everyone, I will most certainly keep in touch. Bye for now.

Regards,James
