My grand parents are Nellie Malloy FREEMAN b. 10/22/1902 in High Point, Georgia to Thomas Franklin FREEMAN and
Sarah Rebecca BAILEY; and Benjamin Harrison CURTIS (James, John) b. 9/10/1888 in Kentucky to John CURTIS and Martha Jane ESTEP.

Nellie and Ben were married in Walker County, Georgia on 8/23/1917 and divorced in Tampa. Florida on 10/2/1943.

Benjamin CURTIS died 2/3/1972 and is buried in Leesburg, Fl
Nellie CURTIS HARRIS died 6/18/1995 and is buried in Orange Hill Cemetery in Tampa, Fl.

John CURTIS (James) was born 1/1/1828 in Virginia and died 6/16/1913 in Target, Kentucky. He had three wives that I know of and all three were younger than he was. He had a total of 12 children. This is all that has been found to this date.

James CURTIS was born in Virginia and he married Nancy PENNINGTON who was also born in Virginia.

I once asked Nanny why she married a much older man (she was not yet 15 years old) and her reply was that he was so handsome in his uniform and she was tired of cleaning house and cooking for her older siblings and parents as she was too young to work in the fields.
