Hart........Benjamin and Matilda.
Back in 1883 Benjamin brought his family to Australia. Benjamin and Matilda were wed in the Great Synagogue Of London, the year was 1875. By 1883 they had 4 children, Pauline, Charles, Joseph, and Sarah.

Benjamin's father was Zalig whose wife at the time was Hannah. Zalig had had another marriage her name was Mary Ann. Both Zalig and Benjamin were Fishmongers.
Matilda's parents were Coleman and Sarah Solomon, They were Furniture Dealers.

We now understand that Benjamin and Zalig's ancestors were Moses who passed away in 1844, his wife Elizabeth, we have no detail on her.

That was in part Benjamin and Matilda's life in the UK.

There was another great adventure in front of them. In 1883 they boarded the vessel Ellora for the voyage to Sydney Australia. As I have already said at this time they had four children, Pauline [1876], Charles [1878], Joseph [1880], and Sarah [1882]. They, while in Sydney would a few more "arrows to the quiver". There would be Gershon my grand father born in 1883 [was he conceived during the voyage], Jeanetta Julia [1886], Avice Annetta [1888], John Robert Victor [1890], Harold Hector Bernard [1898], Norman Cyril Bernard [1900] and two mystery children.
The two I speak of are Celestine Leonora, I have nothing on her accept a mention on the NZ estate papers of Matilda in 1932. where she is a daughter and married under the name of Williams and living in Bexley NSW.
Sarah is another unwilling to give much of her self. She was born in 1882 and therefore fits at the end of the UK born children. She does not appear on Matidla's estate papers. Had she fallen out of favor? Had she changed her name? Or had she passed away during the voyage?

All of Benjamin's children were born in Australia, with exception of course of the UK group. The rest all appear on the NSWBDMs.
With that in mind it is pretty safe to say that it was circa 1900 before they made the shift to the land of the long white cloud, New Zealand.
They settled in New Zealand in a small town called Spring Grove [South Island]where they opened a haberdashery shop. Benjamin would later retire and the people of the township would call to "Pop" Hart as they passed the Hart house on Spring Valley Road. The house has been moved today, to a near by town.
Matilda and Benjamin were buried in the Spring Grove Cemetry.

At least five of their children made the move to New Zealand, Charles Henry married in Wellington, Alexander Joseph is buried there, John Robert Victor married and served in WW1 with NZ. Harold Hector Bernard married and worked as a photo engraver in NZ. Norman Cyril Alphonso married in New Zealand.
