Bartliff family originated from York, Yorkshire.
In the 1800's the family spread out over various Yorshire villages,
like Pickering, Kirbymoorside, Malton & Scarborough.
My line ended up in Leeds in the early 1900's.
Frederick William who was born in Scarborough in 1869 became a carpenter and went to Leeds to work. He came back briefly to Scarborough to marry Leah Brown in 1893. His eldest son John Robert was born in Leeds in Sept.1894 and a daughter Elsie, probably 4 years later 2 other sons Frank b. 1891 & Stan1ey born around l905. The family house in the 1930's was 36 Ganton View, Woodhouse. Frederick survived two of his sons and died in 1955 aged 85. John Robert(occ.Taylor) married Alice Moss of Leeds in 1922 and their first, son Jack.Stan1ey was born on Dec. 23rd the same year. Denis, the next son, was born 18 months later on June 12th 1924. Edna, the only daughter was born a few years later, 9 Nov 1928. Alan the third son was born in 1935 and Robert the last child in 1937.

Our Bastin surname line originated in Gloucestershire, England
Earliest records go back to Berkeley/North Nibley area in the 1600's.
Most Berkeley Bastin's headed mainly by several George Bastin's, seemed to have died young. Could be due to Smallpox epidenmics.
Our line are the only survivors I can find.
Thomas Bastin was born 1797 Berkeley, but resided mostly at a nearby town called Dursley. He married Hester Pegler in 1814.
Of that marriage Jonathon Bastin was born 1817. He moved to Cheltenham
and married Lois Simmons of Cheltenham, in 1837. His occupation was "house painter". They resided in the St Peter's area of Cheltenham. Most male children born also became painters or house decorators.
George b.1845 moved to London by 1881 & married Sarah Tippet of Cornwall.
My Great grandfather Joseph was employed on the railways and also left Gloucestershire. By 1881 he was a fireman at Normanton, Yorkshire.
He married Appalyna Nicholson in 1883. They had about 6 children.
Unfortunately Joseph died 1905 from what was thought to be a railway accident. My grandfather was born in 1903 & he was adopted by a couple called Robert & Margaret Paterson. Margaret later took Ronald up to Gateshead, after Robert died, about 1916.
Another son of Joseph, called Albert b 1888 was killed in WWI, Ypres May 5th 1915.
More loss occurred when the flu struck in 1918, taking both Ethel Maud & Frank Bastin
