I am looking for ancestors of Jon Baker who was born in 1816 in Wheeling, VA (now WV). His family owned a plantation, but he was not the oldest and would not inherit the land. He went to Illinois where he married Nancy Haley. They moved to Missouri and led a wagon trail to Oregon in the 1840's. He was one of the first seven families to settle in Salem, Oregon. He died there in 1908. He is supposidly a first cousin to Robert E. Lee.
