Adam Miller and Eleanor Nicholson

I've been doing research on my ancestry since my mom died in 2008. It is my fathers side of the family that interests me as even he and his close relatives did not have much information on them.

My story begins with Adam Miller immigrating to the US around 1782 along with four brothers (one was named John). Adam was taken in by Samuel Meredith and taught the leather trade. He and Eleanor Nicholson were married in Philadelphia back in the late 1700's. Their first child Mary (Polly was the name she went by) who was born abt 1786. Their second child, William was born in 1789 in Brooklyn, PA (recorded as Connecticut in the records). They had a total of four children; Charles was born in 1793 and Anna Maria in 1795.

According to some records I found online, in 1870, Mary (Polly) was living in Michigan at the age of 84 which is how I got her approximate birth date.

Eleanor was a cousin to John Nicholson, first comptroller of Pennsylvania back in the late 1700's. Their fathers were brothers and John's fathers name was William; his mother Sarah. William Nicholson and his wife, Sara, came to the states with their family and settled in the Chamberstown (presently Chambersuburg and Carlisle, PA. Children were John (b abt 1757, Wales), Samuel, Reuben, Jane, Elizabeth, Arabella.

Adam and Eleanor settled in Clifford, PA to raise their children; my dad was named after the town of Clifford. They were born again Christians who carried the message of the Gospel to the area and raised their children to love the Lord, creator of the universe. My dad would have been so amazed to learn that his own faith had been carried there generations before.
