WHITE (1) - Co Down, Ireland -> Australia (VIC, NSW)

John Richard White was born 27 August 1865 in Rosstrevor, Killowen, County Down, Ireland to parents Richard White & Naffy (Annabella)Smith. His father Richard has been listed as a coastguard on certificates.

John was joined the Merchant Navy and eventually came to Australia, where he continued his naval service, including being a part of the Victorian contingent in the Boxer Rebellion. The State Library of Victoria holds his war time diary and many descendants have typed copies. His naval career continued as time went on and he became Lt Commander.

John's known brothers & sisters include Mary Anne, Joseph William, Richard, Annabella, Catherine & James Joseph. Two sisters became nuns and migrated to Australia also.

He married Amelia Agnes Auld on 15 April 1890 in Williamstown, VIC, and their children included John Richard (Jnr), Annabella, Amelia Agnes (Jnr- dec as child), Mary, Kathleen, William Joseph, Thomas Francis, CHristina Veronica & Amelia Agnes (Jnr 2).

John died on 14 May 1929 in NSW, Australia.

Looking for other researchers. I have some certificates.

Their son Victor Gordon French Broughton (b 14 August 1915, Croydon, Surrey, UK) married Emily Elizabeth Goss (1 August 1916 [known as Jill?]) at Church of St Peter, Croydon, Surrey, UK in 1939.

Victor was a constable with the Metropolitan Police Force in London. He also served in WW2.

He and Jill had the following children we know of: Terrence Keith, Valerie Rose, Victoria Jillian & Michael Gordon.

Victor & family migrated to Australia.

Location: Thornton Heath, Surrey, Croydon

AULD Scotland-> Sussex, Eng -> VIC Australia

Hugh Auld was born to parents Archibold (sp) & Amelia (Emily) Auld in Hastings, Sussex, England, in Abt. 1838.

Archibold/Archibald and Amelia/Emily/Emelia were both born in Scotland; and their first child, Cristiana was also, in abt 1832. It is hard to read, but I believe Amelia's maiden name may be Dunbar, or similar.

A very kind researcher on another message board site found a likely entry for them; Archibald Auld & Emelia Dunbar married 22 Dec 1829 on Isle of Cumbrae, Buteshire, Scotland.

One of their sons, Hugh, migrated to Australia (Victoria) and married Mary Walsh, daughter of Maurice Walsh and Hannah Moore, in Emerald Hill, VIC, on 4 April 1864.

Hugh was listed as being a Mariner & Ship's Carpenter on various certificates.

Their children include Amelia Agnes (b 3 June 1865), Mary, Christine, Archibold, Maurice, Hugh & William.

Looking for more info on Archibald & Amelia; Mary & Hugh and for other descendants.

DUNN - from Hackney, London ?- convict to Australia

Charles Dunn born Abt. 1805. Baptised at St John-At-Hackney.

Father's name Charles also, mother unknown although we suspect may be Esther (two sons had daughters named Esther).

Charles' (1805)brothers George, Henry, John, Nicodemus (sometimes Nicholas)& Joseph, all baptised at St John-At-Hackney.

Charles a bit of a rogue, involved in petty theft with brothers Nicodemus and Joseph, eventually transported to NSW, Australia (as were N & J). Charles was imprisoned on the hulk York, but transported on Midas 2 (1827). Trial notes can be found at Old Bailey records site.

When in colony, Charles & Nicodemus both became Ginger Beer Brewers. Charles had children with Mary Ann (have not yet found a marriage) Charles (9 March 1837), Esther (15 November 1838), Lucy (22 March 1841) and Mary Ann (7 March 1843). The children were baptised at St Philips in Sydney.

Charles & Mary Ann lived in the area now known as The Rocks, in Sydney's centre.

Charles died 13 March 1865 in Darlinghurst Gaol, Sydney after yet another conviction.

John Morrisson (m Esther Dunn); Morrissey?

John Morrisson (possibly Morrissey) was born in Gosport, Hampshire, UK, on 27 May 1830. He was baptised under the name Morrissey, parents Ellen Sullivan and Matthew Morrissey (coastguard). Parents names listed as 'Morrisson' on his death cert.

Other children include Sylvester (also coastguard), Isabella & Ellen.

John came to Australia, family myth says he deserted from a ship but I have not found any proof to support this.

He married Esther Dunn, daughter of Charles and Mary Ann, on 5 September 1855, Scots Presbyterian Church, Sydney, NSW.

Children (many!) include Sylvester Charles, Ellen, Isabella, Esther, James, Lucy, Matilda, Margaret, William, Joseph, Martin, Leo, Frederick (my line), Sydney, & John.

Settled in Bundaberg, QLD - Many of the family remain there. Spelling is alternatively Morrisson or Morrison, depending on the branch. Some on Sunshine Coast, QLD. My line moved a lot, but locations included Goondiwindi, Warwick, Brisbane.

John died 27 May 1912 in Bundaberg. He is buried in Bundaberg Cemetery, Queensland.
