Thayne and Alma Orpha (Felton) Kaysbier children adopted,in 1903 during divorce, why??? and to who???

When Thayne Oliver Kaysbier and his first wife Alma Orpha Felton Kaysbier were divorced they both agreed to have the two children (Thelma and Orrin, aged 3 and 4 yrs) adopted out. Per the divorce papers Alma left the home in 1900 and he filed for divorce in 1903. Per the 1900 Census Thelma was living in the home of my Great Grandparents Louis Caldwell and his wife Elizabetrh Norton Shull Caldwell. My Grandmother was 16 yrs at the time. I know the name Kaysbier has many different spelling even within the same family. Thayne spelled his name as Kaysbier and some people have told me his father Samuel spelled is name Kasebier so the spelling could be an issue as well. I am curious as to why they did this and who adopted the two children. Were they adopted together or to separate homes? There are so many questions and no way to answer a lot of them. am in hopes someone out there can answer some of these questions.

Thanks

I know nothing about his life before he married Susannah Boyer except what is here and rumors. the rumors are that he was apprenticed to someone to learn the Tanner trade. And his father was suppose to have died in 1842 and his stepmother petitioned the orphan's court to set up guardians for the 2 or 3 children that were under the age of 14 yrs. I have been trying to piece together his life between 1829 and 1853. and 1865 - 1902 when he died.
