I am looking for a particular branch of the Fleming family which somehow ended up in South Australia, by sometime in the 1800's. I have very little information due to the untimely death of my grandfather and his widow's subsequent remarriage, after which contact with that side of the family was lost for about 40yrs.
I do know that Charles Fleming snr was a blacksmith in far north SA when the original "Ghan" railway line went through (around the turn of the century). He had four sons: Charles, Stan, Edward and George. Edward is accounted for; George died of an accident in the Northern Territory in the (and his?)early 30s. George went to the war in 1918 claiming to be 21 (actually 16?) Nothing is known of Charles snr before this time, or of the fate of the other sons Stanley and Charles. I don't know if Charles snr had a middle name as he is listed as just Charles or Charlie on George's war records.
Would love to hear from anyone who has knowledge of the extended Fleming family in South Australia.
