VAUGHAN, OFLAHERTY

If anyone else has the VAUGHAN - OFLAHERTY in their family, I would be grateful for any help to fill some gaps.

John VAUGHAN b. abt 1850 Cork Ireland, death unknown in South Island NZ. His wife Julia ..... b. abt 1852 Cork Ireland, d. 1912 Dunedin NZ, arrived in Otago on the Zealandia 1875 at Port Chalmers. Along with two of their children.

John VAUGHAN b. 1872 Cork Ireland, d. 1938 Wellington NZ. He married abt 1918 ?? no registration found, Lena OFLAHERTY b. abt 1880 ?? , no idea where she came from, d. 1962 Auckland NZ., no registration found. Over the years she changed her name both Christian - Lena- Alma-Helen- Helena and surnames to fit the circumstances. At death she was Helena OFLAHERTY AKA VAUGHAN.

They had one daughter Alma Lena VAUGHAN b. 1919 NZ, d. 1995 NZ under the name Maureen Alma Lena BURNE. Like her mother changed her names around.

Mary (Maria) VAUGHAM b. 1873 Cork Ireland, arrived on the Zealandia 1875, death & marriage unknown. Later she spent time in Wellington in and out of court. Also in trouble with the police because of drink.

Philip VAUGHAN b. 1875 NZ, d. 1955 NZ. No idea if he marred, his body was given over to medical research and his ashes scattered over his mother's grave in Dunedin.

Margaret VAUGHAN b. ?? , not registered, marriage and death a mystery.

Eliza VAUGHAN b. ?? , not registered, marriage and death a mystery.

Helena VAUGHAN b. 1879, died 7 weeks later.

Five of the children were placed in 1882 in the Caversham Boys and Girls Industrial School at Lookout Point Dunedin, for the rest of their young life or until the age of 21years as was stated in the law of abandon children.

Their father John was charged many times for not contributing to the welfare of his children. Once he was given hard labour for a month, preferring drink over helping the children.

Julia had also given her body over to medical research after death.

Any help would be appreciated to fill in the gaps.
