"Looking for BRIGGS David Dixon of Rome, Oneida, NY, USA"

BRIGGS, David Dixon, bc 1822 Rome,Oneida,NY, died 1907 New Zealand.
occupation: carpenter

Verbal history has David Dixon BRIGGS running off to sea approx 1849/50, likely emigration through Boston,USA. His father may have been a carpenter or cabinet maker. There may also be a genealogical connection to Gorham, Cumberland, Maine.

Married three times in NZ. 1852 to TANAKARE in Kaitaia, Northland
1859 to Caroline RUNANGA, Northland
1866 to Anne Elizabeth READE in "

Children named:
John Jaford, Robert Ephraim, David Henry, Eliza Annie,
Henry, Franklin Thomas, Margaret-Eliza Jane, Henrietta
Cynthia, Ebenezer Eggleston, May Caroline, Corroline BRIGGS

From family names he used for his children we suspect he is a grandson of Ebenezer BRIGGS, born 1776, probably Vermont, died March 1818, Rome, Oneida, NY. In particular David might be a son of Cyrus or Ephraim BRIGGS.

Ebenezer BRIGGS, born about 1818, son of Ebenezer and Ephilinda (ROBBINS), was a cabinet maker. He married Frances Ann (maiden name unknown) circa 1836; he died in 1903.

Does anyone have information on the children of Cyrus BRIGGS, born 1803, probably Vermont and his first wife Mary Ann TINKER. We know of 5 children of Cyrus & Mary, but only have names for George b 1822 & Hudson b 1837.

Does anyone have information on the children of Ephraim R BRIGGS, born 1805, Rome, Oneida, NY? We know he had at least 3 children, but we do not know their names. Also does anyone know who Ephraim married? The 'R' could be 'Robbins' after his mother.

Any help much appreciated, this is our long standing Brick Wall. We are happy to share information.
