Looking for information regarding my 6th great grandmother.
She was Jane Fennison. She was born in Warrington, York County, Philadelphia, USA in the 1700s. She married a Mr. Smith. They went to England and lived in or around Aldgate Street, Holy Trinity Minories, East End London. The whole family were in the sewing business.
I am Australian because I am descended from Jane's great grandson, my 3rd great grandfather Charles Heath.
I am wondering if Jane Fennison's name may have been anglicesed and her husband Smith as well. I have researched the area where she was born and it appears to have Finnish, Palitinate Germans, Swedish, and perhaps they may have been French Hugenot. Is there anyway I can find out the origins of the name? My brother seems to feel it may have been Swiss/German and they came from the Rhineland Platz area escaping religious persecution. I would love to know.
Researching my Father's family surname Heath. Have gone back
on the maternal side to Smiths, Fennisons, Pasmores. They all came from the East end of London, and lived in or near the Jewish quarters, aldgate street, Holy Trinity Minories and the Tower Hamlets.
In the Heath geneaology are also Lunds and Whimps. The Heaths appear to go back to Yorkshire, though not sure.
As my father was quite tanned I am wondering if there is any Anglo Indian, Gypsy, Jewish, French Hugenot. Maybe even Carribean, as I understand the East End was quite a melting pot even in the 1800s.
My ggg grandfather was sent as a convict to Australia at 18. His name Charles Heath. Though he was given a ticket of leave he was not allowed to return to Endland.
Any clues?
