Francis Frederick Elmbranch was born in Stockholm, Sweden in 1841 a son of Frederick Aronquist and ?

Francis received his Naturalization papers on 18th September 1868 - he was reported as a fencer of Wakaroa, Hawkes Bay and also kept an accommodation house

He married Annie Hansina GRONNEBECK in Woodville in 1882
- she was a daughter of Jorgen Gronnebeck and Bodil Marie Missen who were from Maugstrup, Schleswig, Denmark and had emigrated to New Zealand with 6 children after 1867

John worked in Wellington for a time on the railway construction over the Rimutaka Hill. He later moved to Masterton where he was in sawmilling. Later he moved to Christchurch and worked at the Railway Workshop as a fitter

Frank served in WWI as Bombardier Second Lieutenant, 2/112, 38th Reinforcements, New Zealand Field Artillery, NZEF from 1914 (He was fined in the Nelson court 5s for having failed to render personal service in 1912, a breach of the Defence Act). He was a Butcher at 25 Avon street, Christchurch when he enlisted in 1914. His mother Ann/Annie, (Mrs Frank Walter Mitchell) was living in Grey Lynn, Auckland in 1915 when he was wounded in the thigh, she was later c/o Island Bay House, Island Bay, Wellington. Frank was awarded the Military Cross in 1918
Lillian died 22 Aug 1975 aged 79

Daniel KEMP & Harriet GENTRY Kumeroa, Woodville

Daniel KEMP was born in 1849 in Bunwell, Norfolk England. The 5th of 11 children of David KEMP (1818-1870) & Mary COOPER (1816-1878). David & Mary were married 7 April 1843 in the Established Church parish of Bunwell Norfolk England. David was a silk weaver as was his father, Daniel Kemp. Mary's father was John Cooper, was also a weaver.
Daniel married Harriet GENTRY on 24 May 1884. They had a farm and homestead in Kumeroa, Woodville

Woodville Car Accident
Mr William D. Kemp, farmer, one of the victims of the recent motor accident near Woodville, died last night in the Pahiatua Hospital. Mr Kemp, who was driving the car at the time of the accident, was returning from the Hastings Show with Messrs Boyd, Johansen and Nicoll (Pahiatua) and G. Pebbles (Woodville). The car overturned in McLean street. The occupants were thrown out and injured. All were badly injured. Mr Kemp had his skull fractured. He was a single man, aged 31 and eldest son of Mr Daniel Kemp, a well-known settler of Kumeroa. He had been farming at Kumeroa and latterly at Mangahao and was well known in these parts, He was a prominent member of the Woodlands Hunt Club and a keen follower of the hounds.
He is buried Plot 4, Block 2 Mangatainoka

Travers served in WWI as Private 2803 with the 34 Infantry Battalion, embarking from Sydney 25 Nov 1916 on the HMAT Beltana A72. He enlisted as a Tram-guard, living at 'Baroona', Addison street, Kensington, Sydney, N.S.W. His next of kin was his father, Daniel Kemp at 'Fernside', Kumeroa, via Woodville, New Zealand.

TIMELINE
In 1885 Daniel applied to pay the balance of his section in Tahoraite (near Dannevirke) but it was refused because he had not been in possession for the period of time fixed by law

In 1905 Daniel gave up dairy farming (he was then 56) and sold all his herd which consisted of 40 cows, 6 heifers in calf, 2 bulls and 14 bullocks

In 1907 he told the Woodville County Council about the bad state of the culvert at the front of his house which had been blocked up for years, causing the water to bank up

In April 1923 Daniel was running 728 sheep. In April 1924 he had nil

The death has occurred of a well-known settler of the Kumeroa district, Mr Daniel Kemp, who in his retirement for the last ten years had been residing in Palmerston North. The deceased, who passed away at the residence of his son, Mr Travers Kemp, after a short illness and who had reached the age of 82 years, was born in Norfolk and came to the Dominion 59 years ago, landing at Napier. He took up a bush section at Kumeroa and farmed it for 40 years. He was predeceased by Mrs Kemp nine years ago. He is survived by a daughter, Miss Rosa Kemp of Palmerston North, a son, Mr Travers Kemp of Kumeroa and two grandsons.
He is buried Plot 3, Block 2 Mangatainoka, with his daughter Rosa
