Mary HENDERSON & Gustav Ludwig Theodore VON DER HEYDE - New Zealand

Thomas Maxwell Henderson was born in Dundee, Scotland in 1810

- He married Catherine MacFARLANE in Perth, Scotland in 1834

Catherine died in 1867

Children of Thomas and Catherine are:

1837 - Christina Henderson
- born in Scotland
- died before 1840 as she did not emigrate to New Zealand

1838 David Whitton Henderson
- born in Scotland
- died before 1840 as he did not emigrate to New Zealand

1839 - An unknown gender baby
- born in Scotland in 1839
- died during the voyage to NZ in September 1840 aged 17 months

1841 - George Henderson
- born in New Zeland
- married Adelaide MORPHETT
- died in Auckland (at sea) in 1886

1844 - Mary Henderson
- married Gustav Ludwig Theodore Von der Heyde 1864 in Melbourne
- no death info for Mary
Their 6 (known) children were born in Auckland:
1867 Constance Mary Von der Heyde
1868 Ella Blanche Von der Heyde
1870 Ferdinand James Von der Heyde
1872 Clarence Gustave Eugene Von der Heyde
1874 Florence Amy Von der Heyde
1876 Minnie Louise Isabel Von der Heyde

1848 - Thomas Henderson
- born in Auckland
- died 1924 aged 76 in Auckland

1851 - Henry William Henderson

There is some confusion on the Von der Heyde children, Gustav and Mary who married two of the Hendersons - were they siblings and who were their parents?

Click the link to view the Von der Heydes who married 2 of the Hendersons in New Zealand
- hopefully you can help me add more information to them...

HENRY LEWER (1856-1918) & MARY JANE PRIER (1858-1925)

written by great grandchild Rex LEWER
Our Henry LEWER born 1856 had the nickname of "IRON JAW HARRY." Legend has it that he used to participate in show fighting that took place in the Palmerston North Opera House. Presumably as a challenger to professional fighters.
When he was 24 he married Mary-Jane PRIER at the Wellington Registry Office on the 7th April 1880. Witnesses were Jane's father William PRIER, (her mother was Susannah nee BIRD). The other witness was Emma (?) LEWER. The (?) could be Mary - must have been Henry's sister rather than his mother. Henry's brother Charles married Jane's sister Elizabeth PRIER at almost the same time.
They had the usual large family. The first birth registered was for Henry Charles born 5th Jan 1881 at Ohariu with grandfather William PRIER as the informant.
It appears that by the mid 1880's Henry had moved via Foxton (port) to the Manawatu area as a daughter Ethel Grace was born in Palmerston North 15th March 1884.
Henry worked during his active years in the Timber Industry e.g. McGREGOR'S Mill in Orangiponga so this and places like Ohingaiti, Hunterville, Linton figure as the places his children grew up in. There is also the rumour that he spent time clearing the bush from land he bought for re-sale when cleared.
Henry died at aged 62 on the 15th Dec 1918 at Pahiatua where he was a nightwatchman and Mary-Jane died aged 66 on the 21st July 1925 at Porirua.
