From the Memorial at Wanganui Collegiate School - 'Who had settled down to the practice of law in Hamilton, was one of the first to volunteer on the outbreak of war. He was serving with the Machine Gun Section of the Auckland Mounted Rifles, on Gallipoli, when he was struck by shrapnel on June 5th, and died within three hours. He was a Prefect at the School in 1908, and also in the XV. of that year, besides representing the School in shooting for three successive years1906, 1907, and 1908. From references made at the Hamilton Court by both Bench and Bar, it is evident that he fulfilled the promise of his early years, developing that power for work and sturdy force of character that marked his long career at the School'
