Frans 'Frank' was born in Wellington in 1861 to Francis Gustave Magnusson & Elizabeth Carmont. His father (parents?) were from Sweden and naturalised in Wellington in 1864

MR FRANK GUSTAVE MAGNUSSON was appointed Town Clerk of Dannevirke in October, 1903. He was born in Wellington in 1861, was educated at public schools, and then joined the staff of the Government printing office, where he remained for two years. He then entered the employment of Messrs Turnbull and Company, and subsequently resigned that position to take up the teaching profession. For many years Mr. Magnusson was in the service of the Wellington Education Board, and in 1898 was appointed assistant town clerk of Masterton. Later, he established himself in business as a general commission agent, and subsequently received his present appointment. He is also secretary and treasurer of the Dannevirke Domain Board, and was for some time a member of the Masterton Borough Council. Mr. Magnusson is married, and has two sons and three daughters.
Mary Ann died 14 June 1898 (aged 38) and is buried in Tinui

A quiet wedding was solemnised in Masterton to-day by the Rev Robert Wood, when Mr F. Magnusson, assistant town clerk, was united to Miss Alice (Annie) Forbes, only daughter of Mrs A. Forbes, who for a number of years has acted as Librarian of the Masterton Public Library.

Wairarapa Age, 9 Dec 1916 Mr Eric Magnusson, son of Mr F. G. Magnusson, of Hawera, and formerly of Masterton, who was third writer on the Pyramus, has been discharged from the Navy medically unfit. His health broke down while serving in the tropics. Mr Magnusson saw service on a number of battleships, including the New Zealand while she was in colonial waters. He has received a first-class discharge
