Henry Edgecombe 1840-1850 - killed in the BATTLE of MAHOETAHI, New Zealand

On the 6th of November 1860 Major-General Pratt and about 600 of his troops marched to Mahoetahi in New Plymouth.
Waiting for them were about 400 Maori led by Te Wetini Taiporutu - and so began the BATTLE of MAHOETAHI

HENRY EDGECOMBE of New Plymouth lost his life in the battle

Allan Rayner Harris was killed in action in France on 24th August 1918 aged 38

His brother Jack's son Rayner Harris was killed 10 weeks later on 6th November 1918 aged 24

They both got the Rayner name from Allan's mother (Rayner's grandmother's) surname . .
She was Phoebe Ann Rayner born in 1840 and died in 1922 in the Manawatu, New Zealand
She married Thomas Harris, born 1939 in Bromfield, Essex and died 1924 in Masterton, Wairarapa, New Zealand

There are other young Harris men on that tree that were related - go to YOUNG KIWI WAR HEROES

Looking for DRYSDALE emigrated from SCOTLAND to EKETAHUNA New Zealand around 1860s

I'm looking for the Drysdales that originated in Scotland and emigrated to New Zealand, settling in the Wairarapa region of Eketahuna.
William Drysdale died in 1872 - apparently in Scotland - and a few years later Margaret took the family and sailed, but the name of the ship is not yet known.
I believe they came in two lots, a couple of the 'children' arriving at a later date
Margaret Drysdale married soneone Lamb and settled over there so never went to New Zealand
A Ebenezer Drysdale is one of this family, he died in Greytown in 1941
Any help on this Drysdale would be appreciated
View them here to see what info I have and what is needed

JOB VILE 1845-1905 - Taunton England, to Manawatu & Wairarapa -

In the 1880s a Cobb & Co. Royal Mail Service ran from Masterton in the Wairarapa to Woodville in the Manawatu, stopping at Hastwell's stables along the way and passing through Eketahuna.

Job went into competition with them and offered a similar service, undercutting Cobb & Co's price, from 1 down to 15 shillings

Job Vile on PECK of Taita JOB VILE

He was married to Helen Bland RAYNER in Mataikona in 1866 and had 15 children in 20 years.

PATRICK O'BRIEN - Limerick, Ireland to Johnsonville & Woodville, New Zealand

I am researching PATRICK O'BRIEN who was born in Limerick, Ireland in 1849. He married Mary Hogan and they had 3 children, Bridget, Ellen Mary and Mary Francis before they emigrated to New Zealand - not known when, but before Margaret Gertrude was born in Woodville in 1877.
There is also the possibility they spent some time in Johnsonville, Wellington

They had another 6 children - apparently in Woodville, but not confirmed - they were: Catherine, Winifrd Cecilia , Agnes Mabel, Johanna Cecilia, Ellen Mary and John Patrick, (the only son I have among 8 sisters) who was born 3 months after his father Patrick died.
A year later Patrick's widow, Mary, married his brother John O'Brien.

In the Evening Post newspaper of Wellington, dated 12th January 1886, there appeared this announcement:
MARRIAGE
RUSSELL - O'BRIEN
On 12th January, 1886, at Wellington, Harry Russell, to Mary O'Brien. . . No cake, no cards, and everybody mind their own business

I would love to be able to link them to the above family

There is also an announcement in the Evening Post dated 28th May 1885, which has the same type of humour, it reads:
BIRTHS
O'BRIEN - On the 28th May, at Thorndon, the wife of Martin O'Brien, a daughter. This is the seventh - No boys

Can anyone help pleae - just click "Patrick O'Brien" link to see what I have so far
