I'm researching my wife's side of the family also. Her father, Manuel Joseph Cambra and mother, Barbara Caroline Maynard were both from Rhode Island. Manny has six brothers and one sister. He was the first to be born in the United States. Manny's father, Joseph Cambra, and his mother, Marie Oliveira, were both born in Portugal. We're not sure that Cambra was actually the family name. Manny's father Joseph was raised in a foundling home in Portugal and it is believed that he took the name of the home or town it was located in. That's gonna be more research. Manny has only one younger brother still living and there's not a lot of family history available. The Maynard side goes back to England. I've got an extensive file on the Maynard side. Anyone having additional details on the Cambra side, please contact me.

I recently found my Grandmother Krumreich-Elston's latest info on the 1940 federal census. After Charles D. Elston died in a railroad accident in the Effingham area of Illinois, she married A. T. Lang who was an engineer on the railroad (not sure if it was Illinois Central or Central and Eastern Illinois RR). At the time of the 1940 census Minnie and A. T. (Sonny) were living in Champaign, Illinois and had lived there since 1935. My Uncle Bob (18) was still living with them. He joined the Marine Corps later on in the 40's and saw combat in the South Pacific. My Father was initially married to Helen Louise Kirkendoll until 1933 when they divorced. He then married my mother, Ruby Marie Whitt in 1944. Mom's family was originally from West Virginia via Arkansas to Illinois. Even thouh my Granpa Whitt was born in Tennessee, he used to tell me stories that were told to him by his brothers and sisters about their wagon travel from WVA to Arkansas. He also told me about John Whitt Jr. who fought for the CSA and deserted at least twice but always seemed to return without having to be hunted down. On his last return, John was assigned to a new unit that fought at Gettysburg, Pa and was wounded twice. I found John's history in the Civil war files. Wish I'd have had him tell me more or his stories, now. I have extensively researched the internet connections and married a lot of that info with family tree from our family Bibles and state and county records. If anyone has info they think I could use, please let me know. It would be greatly appreciated.

Researching for the past 7-10 yrs, I consider myself a relative newcomer to genealogy. I started with www.familysearch.org and branched out. I am an active indexer/arbitrator for the online familysearch indexing project. Thus far I have confirmed research on my Elston family tree back to Joel Brooke Elston and his wife Elizabeth Edrington, which covers 1794-1848. At first glance it appears that we are a branch of the New Jersey/New England Elstons that traveled southwest to Kentucky, Illinois and Indiana. The majority of my recent family tree center around the Richland County, Illinois area. The earliest info I have is on John Elston that dates back to 1604 in Androssah, Perth, England. I have not confirmed that branch on my tree yet but am working on it. I intend to purchase James Strode Elston's "The Elston Family in America" to supplement my research.
