Looking for John William Morris Born Scotland about 11-1-1840

This is the information I have but am trying to validate. Could have stowed away with two brothers but cannot document.

Moved to United States from Scotland in 1855. John was orphaned at an early age during the potatoe famine and probably was a stowaway on a ship. There is a passenger list of immigrants to Alabama carrying a John Morris. Yhe date of the arrival was Jan 11, 1855. He landed in Mobile Alabama prior to Civil War. He did sharecropping before moving to Texas. John was known to have a great pioneering spirit. He took great pride in producing many things that other men bought. He made his own wagon's yoke's, hitches and wagon wheels. He made all of his tools from iron heated in his forge. His plow tool's were also made of wood. He never bought handles for his axes or other tools used on his farm. He even made the metal fittings on his single and double trees gates ginges. He made his own cown hidle saddles and harnesses. He made furniture for his home with Katherine and children. John and Katherine operated their own syrup mill on their farm.
