Researching McCANN Family of Hants County, Nova Scotia, Canada

I am researching John and Ann (maiden name unknown) McCANN and their descendants. It appears that John and Ann arrived in Nova Scotia sometime in the 1780s or 1790s as the first reference to John is in a poll tax record of 1794 in Newport, Hants County, Nova Scotia. He was a weaver.

John died at age 88 in 1837 in Newport. He and Ann were cared for by the Overseers of the Poor from 1828 on. Ann disappears from the record about 1852.

John had two sons - Charles and William. I have no information on Charles. William was a weaver like his father. John, Charles and William leased land in Hants County in 1800. John also owned & leased land in Falmouth Township, Nova Scotia - selling and transferring that lease in 1816.

I have also found a William who had several children including my 2nd-gr-grandfather, George William. He was married to Elizabeth (maiden name unknown)and lived in Newport, Hants County, Nova Scotia. I am unclear whether this William was the son of John or if that William was another generation.

I would like to know John McCANN's origins, his wife Ann's origins and maiden name.

I would be happy to correspond with anyone who is researching this family or who has information on a lost John McCann.
