My grandfather was James Stewart Boyd bn in Kilmarnock,Scotland on the 7th June 1882. He was the illigitimate son of Helen Boyd who was the daughter of Adam Boyd and Eliz. Davidson.

Adam was born on 16th Oct 1836 also in Kilmarnock and died in 1901 in Rothesay,Scotland.He was survived by his second wife Eliz. Small.

Through further enquiries I believe I have now found that Adams parents were Adam Boyd and an Anne Reid. This I know is 100% correct as my grandfather was born in the house of Anne Reids sister at 20 Waterside, Kilmarnock and that my grandfather was given her husbands name as my grandfathers mother was left destitute after her own parents divorced. Helen, my g grandmother married in 1883 to a man called Adam Cummings and they moved to Blantyre,Scotland leaving my grandfather behind with his g g grand aunt and her husband James Stewart.

When my grandfather was aged 14yrs he changed his name to James Boyd Stewart to hide his illigitimacy as he was applying for an apprenticeship as a brass finisher.

Further investigations I also believe shows that my g g g grandfather parents were a James Boyd and Helen Findlay.James being born in Ayr on 15th May 1791. He died on 11 June 1857 Kilmarnock.

James parents were believed to be Adam Boyd and Isobelle Johnstone. Adam was born abt 1760 as was his wife and they were married in Ayr in 1787. His parents were believed to be Adam Boyd and Margaret McFadyean from Dundonald, Ayrshire. His father was William Boyd as was his father.

This now takes me back to the time of the early 1700s.
