My ancestor was Frederick John Wilson. He was in Australia by 1859 when my greatgrandmother was born. He then went to New Zealand. There was a lot of movement bewteen Australia/ Melbourne & NZ,particularly Otago at that time. Do you know where he went to? I gather there are loads of Wilsons in Dunedin. What did he do?Shipping records are quite good one you start looking at them. R Dunk
My great, great grandfather Philip Cannil Brooks was born in Stratford in 1831 according to the 1871 census. I do not know who his parents or siblings were. Any information would be gladly accepted. He married Elizabeth Annie Creed in London in 1850/1. They had 4 daughters.
James Walter Holdaway & William Holdaway, sons of Stephen & Sarah Holdaway, then living in Southampton left for Australia in 1869. Work was scarce for the waterboys so they decided to try for a better life at Moreton Bay , Queensland. The land allocated to them was not too good for vegetable growing (it later became the famous Gabba Cricket Ground) so they headed south to the Clarence River. Here they cut timber. Later they came to Sydney.Stephen snr ws a sawyer, which craft was taken up by his son in NSW. I am looking for past family history, some of which I have or contact fromfamily who stayed in Hampshire.
