I am trying to trace the arrival to NZ of George (1830-1905) and Eliza SMITH (1837-1914) The couple were both born in Manchester, Lancashire, England, settled in Thames, NZ and had at least one child (James) born in London, England in 1855. I have another three children born to the couple in New Zealand (Eliza 1871, John 1875, Joseph 1879)so it appears the couple arrived in New Zealand somewhere between 1855 and 1871. I understood they may have emigrated to South Africa first, before re-emigrating to New Zealand.

George's parents were James and Margaret. Eliza's were George and Eliza Green.

Any information about their origins and emigration to New Zealand would be greatly appreciated.
