Looking for information on WESTON family of Burton Overly, Leicestershire, England
My name is Stephanie.
I have reason to believe that John WESTON (abt 1555) & Joan SARSON of Burton Overly, Leicestershire were my great x 10 grandparents. John & Joan married in 1580. And after Joan’s death John married a second time. John was a husbandman and was perhaps comfortably off since when he dies in 1616 he make bequeaths of £151 13s 4d to his second wife and children other than his heir. (In 1610, £151 13s 4d would have the same spending worth of today's £14,845.13)
John & Joan had at least 6 children.
My great x 9 grandfather was their fifth child, Robert. He and his wife Elizabeth also had at least 6 children. He stayed in Burton Overly and was a Miller.
My great x 8 grandfather was his youngest child Edward. He married Catherine HUTCHINSON or HUTCHINGS. They had at least 4 children. Edward & Catherine must have moved to Kibworth Beauchamp since all of their children were baptized there. Their oldest son and heir Richard was bequeathed Edward’s his grist mill and 2 houses.
Richard is my great x 7 grandfather. He married Elizabeth WELLS. They had a least 9 children. In his will Richard bequeathed his windmill and homestead at Smeeton Westerby to his eldest son Richard.
I descend through the couple’s sixth child Robert. He married Keziah GOWARD and they had at least 4 children. They stayed in Kibworth Beauchamp. Robert was also a Miller.
My great x 5 great grandfather was their third child – Edward. And although he was also a Miller, he moved first to Ashley Northamptonshire and later to Rothwell, Northamptonshire. When he died in 1841 he bequeathed the bulk of his estate including 3 freehold houses to his daughters Ann WESTON & Maria SHARMAN and £19 19s to his daughter Mary DICKINSON, wife of Thomas DICKINSON of Stanwick.
Mary WESTON and Thomas DICKINSON are my great x grandparents.
I’d love to hear from you if any of this sounds familiar and particularly if you are research the same branch of the Weston family.
Regards,
Stephanie
