With genealogy, do you just follow one line down, eg Father and mother, then son and follow that line or do you read the whole family and take notes of all Mother Father sons and daughters down to the present day?

Her mother was called Isabella McGREGOR too and was only 15 years old when she had her daughter. No known father. ANY ADVANCE BACKWARDS ON THIS FAMILY LINE.
My mother said we were related to Rob Roy McGREGOR b 7 March 1671.

John Paton was married to Isabella McGregor in Marton where John learnt his trade.
John and Isabella's daughter Mahalia McGregor Paton married Robert McKenzie. Their daught Isabel McKenzie is my Mother.
Tim Paton and Mona Bishop had two children June and Mervyn. June married Roy Lester and they had a Cordial Factory in Levin in the 1945 onwards. Merv looked after the family farm.
John and Isabella Paton are buried in the Ashhurst cemetery as is Theodore Paton and Mona Paton plus Mervyn Paton
