Looking for Hugh Dodson of Sherman Texas

I am doing some research on a Canadian WW1 battalion and ran across the following soldier:
Dodson, Hugh Whitmore. 2356592 Pte Born Sherman Texas USA , Ranch foreman from Howe Texas. Joined up March 28 1918 in Windsor Ontario as Jack Wilson.
KIA 11 Oct 1918, buried Niagara Cemetery, Iwuy, Nord, France (served as Pte J. Wilson, Grave at Niagara Cemetery Iwuy France shows both names (photo)
He shows his next of kin as Jack Hanna of Howe Texas. I would like to find out more about this man. I was able to confirm him living in the Sherman area, but have no details of his reasons for joining the Canadian Army well after the US had joined in the war. Also not sure why he used an assumed name. Was he on the run?
