Pattersons from NJ/PA/OH/KY/IN

My deceased uncle told me years ago that our family was of Scotch/
Irish descent. The Pattersons first landed (according to O.F.)
in New Jersey then moved on into Pa. There Joseph Patterson was
born 3/19/1779. I do not know who his parents were or exactly
where in Pa. he was born. He met and married Sarah Stephens (no
proof but believed to be Giles Stephens II dau.) from Logans Valley,
Pa. I have searched for any kind of footprint but find nothing
concrete, no marriage or birth records. A Thomas Patterson who
died ca. 1807 mentions a son Joseph but when his wife dies a couple
years later, there is no mention of Joseph so maybe he moved on to
Oh by 1810. In 1812 he and Sarah are in Campbell Co., Ky. They
had a son Robert born 1812 in Campbell. Other children were Ann b
18114, Sarah Eliz. b. 1817., Andrew Jackson b. 1830, Mary A.b.
1835, Thomas b. 1824 and William b. 1826. By 1829 they were in
Montgomery Co., In. Joseph, Sarah and Robert are buried in the
Bunker Hill Cemetery near Alamo, In. Would love any info that
could lead to finding Joseph's parents. I have a few suspects:
Archibald Patterson b. Ireland ca. 1750, Samuel b. ca. 1750 and
William and Thomas b. ca. 1750.

Hammels from Ohio

Looking for info regarding the surname Hammel. Have heard that they
were from the Netherlands and from Germany, don't know for sure which
is correct. My Grandmother, Ollie Arvena Sidwell Hooker was the
dau. of Mary E. Hammel. Mary's mother was Catherine Peters who
was married to David Hammel. They were living in Fayette Co. Il
by the mid to late 1800s.
