Interesting people in my family

I am a new researcher (about a year), and having a great time finding stories on my families. I have an ancestor who had to flee a state to prevent his daughter from being stoned to death. A ggggandmother who never married and was reported to be a "madam", a ggggrandfather who was hung during the 1700's, another who was beheaded in the 1600s, and I love it. It brings to life the ancestors and their problems that they faced in their time. While talking to other researchers I have found all of them to have at least one "colorful" ancestor. I think about todays problems and they seem to be overwhelming sometimes, then I find a ggg grandmother who was not allowed to wed in a "white church" because her husband to be was a Native American, had a son, took her to another state, left her and never showed up again. I wonder how I would have handled this with no phones, not much mail (she couldn't read or write anyway), no family or friends back in the woods she lived to help her. All I can say is WOW! These people must have been tough. I have found that there are treasures to be found in alot of places online and free. I have learned that you never give up, and you always look into tidbits the family may have. Church records are a place I had never looked until lately and wow more information on family. Plus they are a neat place to see the problems from way-back. Happy hunting to all and remember: NEVER GIVE UP!

Searching for Martha Fields and Edward Sizemore

Sorry but this may take a moment. Martha (Mahala) Fields b.abt 1782 in NC was married (Indian Ceremony) to a Ed Sizemonre b.1755 in VA. Martha and Ed had one son named Isaac Newton Fields b.Feb. 14,1808 in TN. I have heard and read so many tales on these two I don't really know what to believe. Ed Sizemore was reported as Native American but nobody has proof of this. The story is: Ed "married" Martha (Mahala) took her to TN, built a cabin, dug a well, and left her with another "indian" and disappeared. The "indian" friend went to look for Ed and came back and told her Ed was dead. She raised Isaac herself and never remarried that I can find. Census shows her living with son and daughter-in-law in KY. Ed was not dead and ended up marring another woman, and having at least 6 more children (may be more). I was wondering if anyone had info on Martha or Ed. Martha's father is suppose to be Davis Fields from NC and moved his family to KY after his other daughter was threatened with stoning. Anyone have anything on these folks. Thanks

I had from family that Venie's last name was Church but had another researcher had found her name as Keys. Venie was married to Jonathon Roten in NC. He was told to have said he found her on the side of the road and took her home. Venie was born abt. 1883 in NC? died in 1926 in NC. They had children including GGrandmother Eva Roten married to Lunda Peyton Wingler. Venie seems to be my blockwall. It is almost like she never exsisted. Any and all help is greatly appreciated.
