Joseph Harold Young marriage/divorce Lora Erlene Powell marriage/divorce
I am looking for the dates or actual records for the marriage and the divorce from former spouses for my parents.
According to the records I have found.
My mother, Lora Erlene Powell, was married twice. She was born
Birth 07 July 1912 in Pineville, Rapides Parish, Louisiana, United States
Death 26 July 1980 in Detroit, Wayne, Michigan, United States
Her first husband was Ivy Goodman whom I think was born 22 Aug 1909 in Middle Creek, Sabine, Louisiana but I am not sure.
Ivy Goodman and my mother, Lora Erlene Powell were married about 1932 in Louisiana probably Shreveport, LA. I don't have the record.
They were living together at 205 1/2 Marshall St in Shreveport, LA. in 1933.
They were living together at 1206 Oakland in Shreveport, LA. in 1933.
In the 1940 census Ivy was listed as living at the Strathmore Hotel 70 West Alexandrine. He is listed as married but there is no entry for Lora. He is listed as being a laborer in an auto factory. I surmise that is why he and my mother came to Michigan in the first place. 1940 Census Data ED 84-88 sheet 82A line 16.
If they had separated but not divorced in 1940. My mother is not listed in the 1940 census with him or the 1940 census with my dad. My mother probably stayed in Michigan though because her own mother died in 1920 and her step mother sent her to live with her mothers sister. But I don't know where my mother went. I don't know where Ivy went either. There is an Ivy Goodman in Flint, Michigan but she is a female teacher.
I do know from my mother telling me that she was married to Ivy Goodman and that they came to Michigan together. I know that my mother worked at the Leland Hotel as a waitress. I know that she was hospitalized in Detroit and that she married my father around 1 Apr 1941. My parents moved to 13554 West Outer Drive, Detroit, Michigan in 1949.
My father, Joseph Harold Young, was born 2 May 1907 in Moline, Rock Island, Illinois. He died 29 Nov 1989 in Detroit, Wayne, Michigan. In 1910 he lived in Hamton, Rock Island, Illinois with his father Joseph Harry Young and his mother Hattie Irene Lamb. In 1920 he moved with his parents to Delapre, Lincoln, South Dakota. In 1930 he lived at 11783 Corbett Detroit, MI and worked as an auto worker. He was listed as single. He was married a couple of times before he married my mother. He may have married Doris Hibbler in 1937. He may have married Doris McDonald in 1940. I don't really know the names of his other spouses. I can find marriage records for those women but no divorce records. But my parent's anniversary was 1 Apr and they were married about 5 years before I was born which would be 1941-1942 because I was born in 1947. They were probably married in Detroit, Michigan. I cannot find the records. So that is what I want to find. The marriage and divorce records for my parents and their ex-spouses. I think that if I can verify my lineage to early settler times my granddaughter might be eligible for scholarships. Otherwise, it is just nice to know. Thank you in advance for your help.
