looking for Peter GRANT from Inverness

I am trying to find information about my great-great grandfather, Peter Grant. He was born in Inverness, Scotland, in about 1815. He studied law in Inverness, and came to Canada in 1832, settling in Gainsborough Township, Lincoln County, Ontario. In 1855 or so he married Elizabeth Muir from Sanday, Orkney. They had three daughters and a son. Peter Grant died in Gainsboro Township on April 17, 1890.

Can anyone help me trace his family line back in Scotland?

MUIR of Sanday

Last night I was working again on the family of Jerom Muir in Sanday, Orkney, in the 18th century.

Jerom Muir (b. c. 1862) married Janet Slater (b.c. 1767) about 1785, and they had four children. I\'m stumped about the previous generation - lost in a confusion of too many people named John Muir, though I suspect that was his father\'s name.

Looking for HOLDEN of Godalming, Surrey

My Grandfather:

Bernard Tomlin Holden, b. 7 May, 1889 in Godalming, Surrey, England; died 1 July, 1981 in Worthing, Sussex, England. He married Helen Heap c. 1917 or earlier, and my father, Bernard Roger Holden, was born in Leicester on 8 January, 1919. They emigrated to Canada c. 1922.

His brother, Charles Francis Holden, was born c. 1991 and died as a soldier in France on 10 October, 1915. The information on the Godalming War Memorial website names his parents as Francis Holden and Julia Maria Holden of 26, Milton Rd., Bournemouth. I have been unable to find traces of a Francis Holden in Bournemouth, but I see that there was a bootmaker in Godalming named Francis Holden, and a Major of Godalming of that name in 1903.

I am looking for more information on any of these people, including the parentage and origins of Helen Heap, and the maiden name of Julia Maria Holden.
