My G grandfather was Thomas Dalley, born about 1854 in Fownhope, Herefordshire to mother Ann Dallow, born about 1818 in Woolhope, Herefordshire. He appears in the 1861 and 1871 censuses in Fownhope. Next, he appears in the 1881 census in Cardiff, having changed his name from Dallow to Dalley. His father is unknown, and Ann Dallow appears in the 1861 and 1871 censuses as a widow. Can't find her in the 1841 census, nor any record of her marriage.

I'm about 90% certain of this origin. Would like to hear from anyone familiar with this branch of the Dallow family.

Also, has anyone heard of the name Dallow mutating to Dalley?
