SPIBY as shoemakers in Mawdesley, Lancashire

Some of my relatives were shoemakers named SPIBY from Mawdesley in Lancashire.

John Spiby (c.1816-c.1884) from Croston/Mawdesley/Bretherton married Margaret [CHEW?] from Ormskirk in the 1830s. They had children Richard, Alice, Thomas, John, Henry, Mary and Margaret. They lived in Blackmoor Road, Meadow Lane and Smithy Lane all in Mawdesley and were cordwainers / shoemakers.

The son Thomas married Sarah JACKMAN (b. 1848) around 1874 in Mawdesley and continued the shoemaking, before becoming a farmer in the 1880s, passing the family trade to Richard and Henry into the 1900s. Between 1875 and 1886 Thomas and Sarah had children Margaret, Ellen, Alice, Sarah, Thomas and John.

Alice went on to marry Alfred BARNES from Farington at St. Saviour's in nearby Bamber Bridge and went to live in Farington as Market Gardeners with children Eva, Violet? and Frederick.

NEWSHAM in the Glasson or Thurnham, Lancashire

I am interested in the Newsham family, fishermen from the Glasson Dock / Thurnham area in Lancashire around 1830-90. William Newsham (<1818) and Rachel [Houghton?] (c. 1809) had Margaret, Robert, John, Thomas, Joshua and George. The son Joshua married Hannah (Berry) from Dalton in 1875, but continued to live in Glasson Dock with the family working around the dockyards. They had children in the late 1880s and 1890s - Rachel, Isabella, Nathan, Joshua, John and George.
