Hello. My name is Susan. I have been working on my family tree for 35 years. In that time, I have been stuck more than once but never like this one! My mother is a Fitzherbert with roots in Aroostook County in Maine. Her dad-James P Fitzherbert was born in Easton, Maine in 1906 son of Jessie and Jane Giberson Fitzherbert. He married my Grandmother in 1926, Blanche E Hines and they had one child-Ruth L Fitzherbert. He enlisted in the Coast Guard and returned with TB. He and Blanche divorced and he left the military because of TB (disability Pension). He was then sent to Hebron Sanitorium in Hebron, Maine. At some point he married Geraldine Fulton in 1935 and they had a daughter, Joanne who was shown as a 4 year old living with her grandparents in Presque Isle, Maine. They also divorced and Geraldine and daughter moved to Ventura, CA. I am able to trace them through marriages and divorces but lose Joanne in the 1970's.
The issue(s) that I am encountering at this time are that I have not been able to find anymore information regarding my grandfather since his hospitalization. I am not sure how to go about finding records for the sanitorium as it has been destroyed. And...last but not least, my mother has a picture of her sister given to her by her Dad but has never met her. I would love to be able to finally put those two pieces together for her but I am seriously out of ideas! Any suggestions or leads would be greatly appreciated.....
