REDING, WOLFF, ZULAUF- Germany to America (Maryland)

John U. REDING was born in Germany on 30 July 1832 (per death certificate). On his death certificate his fathers' name is listed as John and mother unknown.

I first pick up John on the 1860 US Federal census in Baltimore, Maryland. He is listed with his wife Anna, son Frederick age 9, daughter Caroline age 7, and Elizabeth REDING, age 48 who could possibly be his mother.?. Also with them is the family of John B.WOLF who is believed to be the brother of Anna.

On the 1870 census in Baltimore City are John REDDING, age 38, wife Anna, 39, and children Caroline 17 and listed as invalid, Barbara 14, John 9, August 7, Elizabeth 5 and Rosa 2. Frederick is missing. Johns' place of birth is Hesse Darmstadt.

Anna died before 1877 and remarried to Christina FLACK? ZULAUF, widow of Henry ZULAUF.

On the 1880 census in Baltimore id John READING 47, wife Christina, August 17, Elizabeth 15, Rosey 12 and Christinas' kids Henry ZULAUF 18. Margaret 15, Joseph 12, Annie 10 and William 7.

On the 1900 census in Baltimore City is John REDING 71*, wife Cristina 60, and their sons Charles E. 19, and my great grandfather Louis F. 17 and granddaughter Mary E. SCHULTZ 10.** Enumerated in the residence before them is living Christina's daughter-in-law and grandchildren.

*On this census the place of birth for John is listed as Missouri and his date of birth is listed as July 1827
**Mary E. SCHULTZ is the granddaughter of Cristina from the ZULAUF family and her mother is possibly the M. SCHULTZ who was buried 6 May 1892 in what is known as Voshell's Memorial Gardens on Cardiff Street, Baltimore.

On the 1910 census in Baltimore is ***John REDING 85 born in Germany, his wife Christina 70 and granddaughter Mary SCHULTZ 18.

***On this census John is German born and date of immigration is given as 1827. That is not possible if he was born in 1832. His occupation is given as Physician at home. John was never a doctor but family has told the story of him being a Faith healer.

John REDING died in Baltimore on 27 April 1917 and is buried at Voshell's Memorial Gardens as is Christina who died 22 May 1926. Their graves are unmarked.

While the information on John is different on several of the censuses I do believe it is my correct John REDING in all the census records.

Of all the REDING kids from the first marriage to Anna, the only ones I can find information on is Elizabeth who married Louis F. DEISE, raised a family and died in 1946 and Rosa Fredericka REDING who died unmarried in 1889. Rosa is buried at the 5th German Reformed Cemetery. I have not located that cemetery so I do not know if there is a marker.

Granddaughter Mary E. SCHULTZ has not been located after the 1910 census. I am told she did marry, the husbands first name could be Lou or Louis but last name is unknown.

I would like to find information on John, his parents, birth, immigration, marriage to Anna and anything on their children. Also, any information on Mary SCHULTZ.

HEWITT, SHARP, NAYE/NAY/NEY and GIBSON from Ireland to America (Pennsylvania)

Ephraim HEWITT was born about 1810 in Ireland. The exact Parish and County are not known but possible in or near County Cavan.
The names of his parents and siblings, if any, are also unknown.

Ephraim married Lydia SHARP before 1834 in Ireland. Lydia was born and baptized in 1813 in Drumgoon, County Cavan. Her parents were Samuel and Isabella (maiden name unknown) SHARP.

The children of Ephraim and Lydia SHARP HEWITT are: Jane born about 1834, Ephraim born 1840, William born about 1842, Isabella born about 1844 and Ann born about 1853. There may have been a son Edward. All the children were born in Ireland. The last child born to Ephraim and Lydia, Elizabeth, was born in 1860 in America (Pennsylvania).

Jane and an Edward HEWITT sailed together from Liverpool, England to Philadelphia, PA in 1854. Ephraim, Lydia and the rest of the family sailed from Liverpool to Philadelphia in May 1860. Elizabeth was born a few months later. Ephraim HEWITT died about 1865 in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania and Lydia died there the following year.

Jane HEWITT married James NAYE. He was born about 1840, the son of James and Margaret GIBSON NAYE. Janes brother, Ephraim, married Mary Jane NAYE, sister of James NAYE and daughter of James and Margaret GIBSON NAYE. William HEWITT married Mary Jane TORREY. Isabella HEWITT married Charles PLEIS. Ann HEWITT married John KARGER and Elizabeth never married.

I am looking to find more information on these families, both in Ireland and the United States and to make contact with any living family members in both countries.

SCHULTZ, ZULAUF REDING-Baltimore, MD

I am searching for information on Mary E. (Ella) SCHULTZ. On the 1900 census, Baltimore, MD., she is living with her grandparents, John and Christina REDING. She is listed as age 10 born May 1890. On the 1910 census, Baltimore, still with grandparents, she is listed as age 18. Her parents are possibly Anna ZULAUF (ca 1869-Aug 1893), daughter of Christina ZULAUF from her first marriage, and Frank SCHULTZ, no other info known. I am told "Ella" did marry but husbands name in unknown. What became of Mary/Ella after 1910? Who did she marry? Did they have children? When/where did she die and where is she buried?

Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!
