I am looking for any suggestions on how to further trace this line of my family - any and all help or guidance will be greatly appreciated This is the information that I know for certain: John Augustine O'Neil, my grandfather, was born on May 17 1898 in Scotland and passed away in May 1973 in Brooklyn NY. He married Mary Doyle (1904-1982) in Glasgow Scotland and came to Brooklyn NY in the 1920's. Mary Doyle was the daughter of Patrick Doyle and Mary Burgess They had four children: Mary, Agnes, Alice and John. John Augustine's father was Feliz Michael O'Neil born abt 1857 in Ireland and passed away Dec 13 1900 in Campbeltown Scotland. He was married to Agnes Black, daughter of Daniel Black and Margaret Morrison. Agnes was born abt 1870 in Rathlin Island Antrim Ireland and passed away in 1923 in Campbeltown Scotland. Feliz Michael's father was Arthur O'Neil born abt 1798 in Ireland and passed away April 5 1876 in Campbeltown Scotland. He married Bridget McGeehan. According to Arthur O'Neils death cert it listed his parents as being Isabella McCloskeu and Arthur O'Neil both of Ireland. I have tried the LDS family org site, Rathlian Island records and ancestry. I do not know if Griffiths valuation can provide any information as the name is common - although growing up I was always told the name was O'Neil with one L and not two (but I am sure that for some reason one L was lost among the way). Any and all information/ guidance would be greatly appreciated - thank you Mary

My biggest porblem is that many of amy ancestors (grandparents) were born in Scotland but there parents were born in Ireland - unfortunately on the cencus reports that only list the country of origin and not the county in which they may hav originally lived or were born in. How do you go about finding them, especially when they have extremely common names, such as McKenna, Brannigan, Campbell, Doyle, O'Neil, Black etc.
