Charles Reilly b. circa 1800 married Mary nee Reilly b. 1805 from the Townland of Cranaghan, Co Cavan, 12 Aug 1838, in Drumlane Parish, they then lived in Cranaghan, Co Cavan, Ire. Prior to their marriage, Charles lived in the Townland of Kildalan, Parish of Kildalan, Co Cavan, about 3 or so miles south southwest of Cranaghan. They had Francis b. 30 Jun 1839, Bernard b. 18 Aug 1841, Margaret b.1844, Hugh b. 29 Nov 1846, James b.1849, Mary b. 23 Aug 1852 and Charles b. 12 Jun 1854.


I believe Charles Reilly b.1800 died in late 1853, or early 1854, as Charles, his son, was born in June of 1854, and their 14 acre farm in Cranaghan was listed in Mary Reilly's name in 1854. There could be an exception as maybe the census taker simply talked to Mary, and listed her name on the property. There is no other mention of Charles Reilly b. circa 1800, to date. The property remained in Mary's name until 1903 when son Hugh Reilly b.1846 and his wife, Anne Fitzpatrick b. 1854, from Derryvony, Co Cavan, took legal possession after the death of Mary Reilly on 6 Aug 1902, age 97.


Charles Reilly and Mary nee Reilly's Children;

Francis b.1839, had moved 1.25 miles northwest to the Postal Town of Ballyconnell, Kildalan Parish, some time prior to his marriage in 1864, and continued to work as a farm laborer, as reported on baptismal records in 1865, 1869, 1870 and 1873, until he purchased a store at the main intersection of Ballyconnell's Main St.
Francis Reilly b. 1839, Cranaghan, Co Cavan, Ire., (m)married Catherine Bannon b.1835, Ireland, and had 4 children. Anne b. Oct. 1865, Ballyconnell, Kildalan Parish, and the same for son's Francis b. May 1869, Charles O'Reilly b. Oct. 1870, and Owen b. Apr. 1873. They lived in the shop on Main St in Ballyconnell. There is no knowledge of when Francis purchased the building or where he got the funding. Owen talked of fishing out the back window of the house in the canal as a child.

Hugh b.1846, stayed on the farm, taking possession of it in 1903 after his mother, Mary, passed away of old age. Hugh had married late in life to Anne Fitzpatrick, the daughter of Francis Fitzpatrick and Mary Farrelly, on 17 Oct 1897, Drumlane Parish, not having any children. Hugh's wife Anne, passed away on 4 Jan 1913, of Addisons disease, possibly from T.B. Hugh moved to Ballyconnell, with his brother Francis, early in 1918, and died there of pneumonia in March 1918, 11 days prior to our Francis' similar death at the start of April. Both men were living as widowers at the time. Catherine Bannon, Francis' wife died in 1914. Charles O'Reilly, as listed on his certificate of birth, the 3rd born son of Francis Reilly, b.1839, took legal possession of the store in Ballyconnell, upon the death of his father Francis.


In 1919, the Reilly family farm in Cranaghan was registered as being owned by Patrick Fitzsimons, then William Shannon in 1925, John Montgomery 1933, Francis Maquire 1948, Lydon Magee 1956, then finally, Sean Quinn, the richest man in all Ireland, purchased the farm and incorporated it into the prestigious Slieve Russell Resort Golf course.


To date, nothing is known of the other Reilly siblings, Bernard, Margaret, Charles, Mary and James. Except that Mary was listed on the farm in the 1901 Census of Ireland and was listed as married, yet a husband was not listed.
