Ot never cut her hair and wore it in two very, long braids as a teenager; on top of her head as an adult. She knew the normal Chrokee knowledge usually taught to Cherokee women about medicines and foods from nature. She was always in fear of being found out to be Cherokee and harm coming to her family or of being moved to the reservation in Oklahoma.
Indians in Hiding During 1800s
I am looking for information about Cherokee Indians who were in Missouri illegally in the 1800s. In particular I am seeking information about Matthew Agee 1829 -- 1880 who moved form Tennessee in 1838 to avoid the Trail of Tears. Also seeking information about his son Amos Agee 1867 -- 1918 who was born in Spring Hollow, Lecleod County, Lebanon, Missouri.
I especially would like to find Cherokee names and documentation to establish Cherokee identity. Thank you for any help you may offer. Cherokee of the Agee Line
