I'm looking for the answer to a mystery... our ancestors started off life with the name GHOST then underwent a transformation and ended up as GORST.

It's complicated but by following birth and marriage certificates I can confidently say it was not just a case of "mispronunciation".

The main players are:
Henry Ghost = Jemima Powell (Spitalfields c.1820's)
Kids: Thomas John (Ghost/Gost)b.1842 Limehouse, UK; Henry, Mary Ann, William, Jemima, Elizabeth, Ann, Alice, Rachel

Thomas John GHOST/GOST 1842 = 1. Margaret TIPPET = 2.Mary Ann SUTTON
kids from 1: (GHOST) Thomas Henry, Charles Richard b.1863, Henry, William George, William
kids from 2: (GOST) Eleanor, James, Alice Maud, Mary Ann, Sara

Charles Richard GHOST (b. 1863 Poplar, UK) = Adelaide Maria FOILE
kids: William John 1884, Charles Richard 1886, Adelaide Margaret 1888, Charles Richard 1890, Maud Ellen 1893, Rose Abigail 1896, Daisy & Lily (twins)b.1901 (all registered as GHOST), then their brother Robert was born and registered as GORST in 1905.

Robert is my husbands grandfather, deceased long before anyone thought to look into a family tree! but father-in-law was able to give us most of his aunt/uncle's names before I started searching and was able to confirm.

If anyone has these names in their tree I'd love to correspond.
