Warde/Lemmon-Warde - Warwickshire

Journal by Lemmon

John George Ward/e was born in Stratford-on-Avon, Warwickshire c 1802/3. He married Rebekah Gibson in 1836. They lived in Leamington Priors, Warwickshire. He died in Leamington Priors in 1887. He had children named George Henry and William Lawrence. These names were carried down for next 3 generations. Two generations of GH and WL Wardes were actors who married actresses. They lived in Edgbaston, Birmingham. The second George Henry, who also had a brother named William Lawrence, married an actress called Priscilla Lemmon and the name became Lemmon-Warde. Their sons George Henry and William Lawrence were also actors, quite well-known. This George Henry had a son William Lawrence who was my paternal grandfather, born in Birmingham in 1884. His father George Henry died in 1887. I have a newspaper article which mentions his sudden death.

My grandfather emigrated to South Africa with his wife, Kate Ellen Sharp in the early 1900's.

I do know that there are Lemmon-Warde's in Australia and one of them is called Lawrence. I suspect that this may be a relative.
