"where was my grandfather David Hovis from?"

Journal by grammiecarolyn

This is my very first posting and am just a little intimidated! So will just jump in and ask if there is any information out there about my great grandfather, David Hovis who was married to Anna Hart sometime before 1890. She appears on the 1900 Federal Census as a widow with six children, the youngest less than a year old. We were always told that she immigrated from Ireland and David from Germany. And this is where my lineage hits the proverbial "brick wall". Does anyone have any common research? grammiecarolyn

Anna lived in Cameron County PA on the 1900 Fed Census; there were 5 sons and only one daughter, Mary who married Arthur Dietrick 15 June 1920 in Niagara Falls NY. Chronologically the sons were: William Hovis b. 16 June 1887 d. 1 Apr 1951 Bath NY, John Bendick Hovis (who was my grandfather) b. 5 Apr 1889 d. 24 June 1940 Saginaw MI
Andrew Hovis b. 27 Dec 1891 d. 25 Mar 1937 at Saranac Lake of TB in a sanitarium. Joseph L. Hovis b. 27 June 1893 d. 14 Feb 1969 in Niagara Faqlls NY (wife - Belle) George Emmet Hovis b. 6 July 1899 d. 20 Jan 1960 in Wyandotte MI.

Anna was born approximately 1868 in Ireland and she stated her age as 31 on the 1900 Fed Census. The Potter County Historical Society tells me she came from Northern Ireland.
