William Brown CADZOW + Gertrude HARRIS - Masterton, Wairarapa

William Brown CADZOW was born about 1858
- he was the 2nd son of 12 children of William CADZOW Esq., & Euphemia BROWN of Myrtleford, Bright, Victoria, Australia (who were originally from Whitburn, West Lothian, Scotland)

- he married Gertrude HARRIS on 18th February 1892 in Bluff
Gertrude was born on 23rd April 1867 in Big Bush, Blenheim
- she was a daughter of Hiram William Harris (1837-1915) of Oxford England who died in Feilding & Julia Ann RUTLAND (1834-1926) of Ireland who died in Hamilton - they were living in Picton when Gertrude got married

William was a tenor singer and performed with his wife Gertrude (Madame Cadzow) and daughter Effie (Euphemia) around New Zealand

- they were in Greymouth available for concerts in 1912

- his article written for the newspaper "Fair Play" in 1894

William died on 14th July 1935
- he is buried in PLOT WBC - ROW 6 - AREA: Plan VII Archer St Cemetery, Masterton

Gertrude was a piano teacher and a registered music examiner for the Government with the Minister of Education
- she was teaching in Greymouth in at least 1903

- they appeared in Stratford, Taranaki
in 1896

Gertrude died on 20th August 1930
- she is buried in PLOT GC - ROW 6 - AREA: Plan VII Archer St Cemetery, Masterton

their children were:

1892- Euphemia Gertrude Rutland Cadzow
- passed her Higher Examination A.T.C.L. with 80 in 1912. Taught by her mother. Travelled with her parents, performing public concerts around New Zealand, as the "Cadzow Family"

1894- Cecilia Ethel Dudley Cadzow
- born in Christchurch on 18th April
- Cecilia died aged 6 weeks
- burial unknown

1896-1894 Dudley Hamilton Cadzow
- born in Collins St Hawera on 17th September
- Dudley died aged 2
- burial unknown

May 1896 - at the Theatre Royal in Nelson

Oct 1897 - a Kinematograph at Thames arranged by impressario and manager Mr P.R. DIX

Feb 1898 - at the Skating Rink with Campbell COLQUHOUN

Xmas Night 1905 - at the Opera House Greymouth they performed with soloists, Princess Te Rangi Pai (Fanny Rose HOWIE (nee POATA) 1868-1916), Miss Eileen HANNAN, H.SEYMOUR, George HOLDER. The conductor was Mr George Thomas MOSS (1863-1939)

Feb 1910 - at George (Georgio Italo) MARTINENGO's (1873-1935) Benefit Concert

Feb 1912 - under the auspices of the Grymouth Liedertafel with leading artists Miss Violet LAMOCROFT and the famous tenor Mr R.F. FOSTER

Feb 1919 - at the King's Theatre the famous Caszow TRIO performed William, the 'eminent Scots tenor', daughter Effie, 'a very sweet soprano' and Gertrude (Madame Cadzow) on the piano

Hi there - his parents are my GGG Grandparents. I'm descended from his sister Elizabeth. I have quite a lot of information on the Cadzows. If you'd like to know more please touch base. I'd love to learn more about William and his descendants in NZ. All of his siblings stayed in Australia.
